The Tragedy: The Story

 The Tragedy: The Story

April 5: Divya had returned from Madras, and she was to attend Govinda's party that evening. So she went to a beauty parlour in Bandra, to get herself prepared for the party.

News came via a very well informed source, who had managed to speak to the only people who had been present at the time of the accident - designer Neeta Lulla and  her doctor husband, Shyam Lulla.

According to our source. "Neeta had  been  called by Divya at 11 at night, so she took along  her husband for company. When they  arrived  there, Divya was apparently already tipsy and Sajid was leaving.

"The fact that all wasn't well between them, was apparent. Sajid is believed to have said,'Relax now, and I'm coming  back in  half-an-hour'.

"Divya was visibly upset and began talking to Neeta. Allegedly, Divya had taken some kind of overdose the previous day to get Sajid's attention. Naturally, he was upset with  her behaviour and had asked her to stop all this drama.

"Now Divya, who was already, quite high was hurt that her husband  didn't have enough time for her, even after she'd threatened to take her life a day before.'He doesn't have enough time for me', she reportedly  told Neeta.

"She had already had a large rum. And she kept saying,'See, how much I love him'. She got on to the balcony and was wavering there and only naturally, both Neeta and her husband were concerned. Then Divya fell and  Neeta and her husband rushed to the balcony, but Divya had landed on the parapet below.

"It was from the railing of the balcony that she took off. Now,  whether she tripped, lost her balance or took off is not really known. What is known, is what she told Neeta who warned her about her precarious position. Divya was looking heavenwards with her body tilting backwards when she said,'I'm looking to see if Sajid is coming back'. And the next thing  Neeta knew is that Divya had disappeared over the top.

"Neeta and her husband rushed down only to discover Divya dead ... After that, it was one big nightmare. They rushed her body to Cooper Hospital, after which they rang Sajid, Divya's parents'  house (they spoke to her father) and Pehlaj Nihalani.

"When Sajld saw his wife's body, his blood pressure shot up and  he was  admitted to the  hospital. Then came the father and the hysteria began.  Only Pehlaj controlled whoever was there...  While his son Vicky Nihalani and Divya's brother Kunaal were sent off to find Divya's mother..."

Where was Mrs. Meeta Bharti? She was apparently at a friend's place playing cards. It was already 2.30 in the morning. When Vicky reached there with Kunaal, the latter became hysterical on  finding his mother missing. Apparently, neighbours heard the most abu• sive  language spewing forth. Vicky, however, managed to calm him down. They went back to the hospital to discover that  Mr. Bharti had also been admitted, having suffered a mild attack due to an outburst of extreme violent behaviour.

Now there were three people at Cooper.  Divya's body was in the morgue. Her husband Sajid was in the ICU.  And her father was  heavily sedated in the Psychiatric Ward.
